Li Xianting, "the godfather of Chinese contemporary art" and a well-known art critic, is the general planner behind Songzhuang. He famously launched the then unknown Fang Lijun, Yue Minjun, Zhang Xiaogang and Wang Guangyi onto the international art stage. Li's status, his strong academic background and his wide connections in both the East and West art communities are undoubtedly the cornerstone of Songzhuang.
