LONDON - Auctions: Banker Portrait Fetches 15 Times Forecast at London Art Auction

A painting of a Florentine banker tipped to fetch 200,000 pounds ($294,150) at Sotheby's sale last night of Old Master artworks in London sold for 15 times more; a second picture, forecast to make 2.5 million pounds, flopped. That shows the price gulf between fresh-at-auction pre-19th- century artworks and those that keep changing hands, said dealers and George Gordon, Sotheby's co-chairman of Old Master paintings.
