With less than a month to go in the worst economic climate in years, the museums say they are nonetheless cautiously optimistic. Their effort has been buoyed by pledges of £1 million (about $1.48 million) from the Art Fund and £10 million from the National Heritage Fund, as well as by unsolicited public donations.
