Exhibition Title: 'A Joyful Moment 2'

Artist Name: Soon Lai Wai
Dates: April 18 to May 8
Website: http://www.momentousarts.com

Exhibition Description:

Soon Lai Wai, 38, currently blazing a trail in the Malaysian art scene with his signature lotus paintings. His luxuriant, sensual and evocative oil paintings are mesmerising. Their heavily worked textures radiate vibrant reds, blues and oranges exuding a contemporary Asian aesthetic.

Soon has reworked the classic lotus flower with liberated strokes into a lush, tropical feel. Broad leaves of the lotus arch freely, supported by their long elegant stalks. Standing tall in their natural habitat, the lotus petals radiant greens and yellows, which hint at a tinge of romance and idealism.

Soon Lai Wai was born and bred in an old part of Penang town. He studied Chinese painting for 7 years before turning to oil as his medium of expression. He has exhibited in various parts of Asia such as Korea, Japan, Thailand and Indonesia. His exhibition in Penang in 2007 and in Kuala Lumpur in 2006 were both sell-out shows.
