Exhibition Description:

A group of works by Dominic Steiger have been selected specifically to give an overview of his various and numerous artistic approaches. All of the works originate from the artist's Viennese studio.

The display is a juxtaposition, of his early works such as the Knöcheltyp, drawings from the 1970s, wood sculptures from the years 1989 - 1991 and painted bottles with acrylic pictures that combine words and writing in a painterly way. Also on display are the group of works Kulturcollagen, collages pasted on postcards, cardboard sculptures, films and installations, created between the 1960s and the present.

This artist has become one of the most outstanding representatives of Avant-garde literature and art. Steiger has been associated with the Wiener Gruppe (Vienna Group) and the artists of the Wiener Aktionismus (Viennese Actionism). With his works transcending the boundaries of the arts, Dominik Steiger has created a 'little' variant of Avant-garde art in the best sense of the word.

In the process of his collaborative works with Christian Ludwig Attersee, Günter Brus, Hermann Nitsch, Dieter Roth and Gerhard Rühm, Steiger positions himself as a 'parodistic troublemaker and mocking caricaturist'.

Dominik Steiger was born in 1940 in Vienna. He currently lives and works there as a poet, graphic artist, painter and sculptor.
