Exhibition Title: Group: Focus II

Artist Name: John Simpson
Dates: 8– 30 August 2008, Private view, Thursday 7 August, 6-8pm
Website: http://www.forstergallery.com

Exhibition Description:

Group: Focus Il is the Forster Gallery's second part of the summer exhibition program, focusing on photography and printmaking by gallery and invited artists, including Ryan McClelland, Etienne Clément, Sanders Nicolson, and Rob Carter. Unique monotypes and two limited edition silkscreens by John Simpson, will be previewed in the upstairs gallery.

John Simpson draws on folk tale, myth and his own sensitive and poetic imagination, to create prints introducing you to humans, animals and fascinating hybrids. What is most exciting about these powerful and unforgettable images is the suggested scenarios and behavior patterns between such beings.

Simpson favours a monochrome pallet without any background, with the occasional introduction of measured doses of vibrant red pigment on to the surface of his work – perhaps in an attempt to heighten our awareness of some unsettling happening or possibly to lure the viewer further into the already enchanting narratives.
