Exhibition Description:

'Against Nature' begat 'Patterna'…

Inspired and by no means restricted, the theme for this group exhibition is based on the work of French artists from different times in history, the contemporary works of Tuyman, contrasting with the late 19th Century Moreau and his contemplation of the French Decadents. 'Patterna' deals with the concept of surface pattern and its correlation with time in the work of a number of contemporary artists. Each artist has achieved very different ends by a variety of means. All resulting in the device of flat and two dimensional elements, surface patterns, which play a key role in signifying that the work requires that we understand a passing of time. Whether in history or its more vulgar cousin, nostalgia, one sees shifts in value systems over time or theoretical questions about being able to bend and alter time. These works conduct dialogues with the viewers by engaging in an intrinsic use of surface pattern...
