Exhibition Title: Three Films
Artist Name: Elad Lassry
Dates: Opens January 22, 2009
Website: http://www.whitney.org/
Exhibition Description:
This winter, the Whitney will be presenting the first solo New York museum exhibition of the work of Elad Lassry, a LA-based artist who works in photography and film.
Lassry's derived his images from portraiture, advertising, and nature photography and investigate the way the meaning of a picture can shift in different social or historical contexts. He regularly draws on pre-existing source material, his work exploring such fluctuations of meaning in images of remarkable visual clarity and precision. His three films are deliberately projected on a small scale, shot in either 16mm or Super 16mm and reveal the picture as a dynamic, changing object.
