Exhibition Title: In Chaos We Become The Ocean

Artist Name: Andrew Schoultz
Dates: March 6 - April 12, 2008, Opening reception: Thursday, March 6, 6-8pm
Medium: drawings, paintings, sculpture and installation
Website: http://www.morganlehmangallery.com

Exhibition Description:

Over the past decade, the Californian artist Andrew Schoultz has done works that have ranged from large contemporary murals created in the public realm, to works of a similar aesthetic applied to paper, canvas, and sculpture-installation. Schoultz's art in any context is an unyielding visual political discourse on the ailments of our contemporary society, maybe a foreshadowing of where Shoultz believes we are heading, a return to the "ocean" planet caused by environmental degradation and global warming.

Description:

This Contemporary painter uses eco-political minded symbolism, with the addition of a new element of layered foreground imagery which references a myriad of artistic forms including graffiti, medieval cartography, Indian miniature painting, and ancient woodcuts.
