Exhibition Title: A SHIMMER OF POSSIBILITY
Artist Name: Paul Graham
Dates: February 4-May 18
Website: http://www.moma.org/exhibitions/
Exhibition Description:
MoMA will be presenting a series of photographs depicting Paul Graham's observations of everyday life in his travels across the United States. The name of this exhibition is from his 12-volume edition of books titled 'a shimmer of possibility'.
In August of 2004, Paul Graham (British, b.1956), who had moved from London to New York in 2002, set out on the first of many trips around the US to see the country for himself and to photograph. He has created numerous simple but structurally inventive series that vary in number of pictures, from one to more than ten, and provide a vivid glimpse into unheralded moments of the individual lives Graham encountered on his travels.
A series taken in New Orleans of a woman eating a take-out meal transcends the usual subjects and describes aspects of life that, while ordinary, are imbued by the photographer with affection and curiosity. a shimmer of possibility is a call for attention to the brief, indefinite intervals of life.
The exhibition has been organized by Susan Kismaric, Curator, Department of Photography, The Museum of Modern Art.
