Collector's Guide to Surviving Art Basel
Join me in Miami!
Heading to Miami for Art Basel and the numerous satellite fairs? Me too! I have a few tips for the first-timer or the expert:
Research. There is just way to much to see and do in Miami in such a short time for you to arrive unprepared. If you are looking for artwork from particular artists, find out what galleries are bringing their work and what fair they will be at ahead of time. On a budget? Then find out what fairs are more likely to have artwork in your price range. Short on time and just want to see the most artwork? Then do your research based on geography and pack everything in within one area with the most fairs.
Prioritize! Whether it is your time or your money or both that is limited, you must prioritize based on your specific goals in Miami. This takes us back to research but remember to be realistic about how much you can do because you want it to be an enjoyable experience.
Avoid "ART OVERLOAD". We've all had it....seen so much artwork in a short amount of time...the colors and lines start to blur and you no longer care what anything looks like! Avoid this by taking breaks in between each show. Take in the beautiful weather, get a snack or a cocktail...even bring a good book and read for a bit in between shows...trust me it helps!
If you want to join me at the fairs in Miami, I'd be happy for you to come along! Please, e-mail info@raandeskgallery.com and let me know where you are staying and what you want to see and we'll meet up!
