James Cohan Gallery is proud to partner with Human Rights First to present a panel discussion entitled Conversations in Hope: How America Can Lead the Way Forward and Regain the World's Trust. This event is free and open to the public. A cocktail reception and viewing of the current Trenton Doyle Hancock exhibition will begin at 6:30pm, followed by the discussion at 7:00pm.
Today our country is brimming with hope. The results of this year's presidential election have presented the opportunity to reintroduce America as a leader in protecting the human rights of people all over the world. At Human Rights First, we know that change will not happen automatically and we have an ambitious agenda for the new administration and for Congress. We have identified four critical actions that must happen quickly to restore the world's trust in the United States:
-Protect Iraqi refugees
-Close Guantánamo Bay
-End torture of prisoners in U.S. custody
-Stop the flow of arms to Darfur
We want to hear from YOU at this pivotal moment of possibility. What are your aspirations for America's leadership on human rights? What do you think the most important issues are to solve? How are you hoping to be involved?
Please join Human Rights First CEO and Executive Director Elisa Massimino and three senior staff experts in a conversation about how to make these and other actions a reality. We invite you to submit your questions about these four areas, and anything else you wish to share, to the e-mail below. We will use a selection of submissions as the starting point for our conversation on the 18th. We look forward to receiving your questions, but you do not need to send questions beforehand to participate.
RSVP by Tuesday, December 16th to events@humanrightsfirst.org or 212-845-5262.
The deadline to submit a question via the e-mail above is Monday, December 15th. Space is limited
